Recognizing the increasingly important role played by the business sector in transforming the world economy, and its stakes in sustainable development, TERI- BCSD India, in partnership with the WBCSD, Geneva, in association with the WBCSD, Geneva, is organizing the World CEO Forum 2010 on 04 February 2010 at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi.
The forum will focus on the overarching theme ‘Vision for a Sustainable Tomorrow: business as a game changer’ discussing the sub themes:
• Vision 2050 - The New Agenda for Business • Green Economy - A Transformation to Address Climate Change and Multiple Crises • Water - The New Challenge for the 21st Century
Over 200 CEOs, heads of multi / bi-lateral organizations and senior government representatives from across the globe would participate and address how they can help solve the climate crisis and stimulate ‘green recovery’ through innovative business models, effective policies and investments, new partnerships and development of energy-efficient technologies. COP15: High-level Roundtable on Private Sector Solutions for Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific 10 December 2009 at Bella Centre, Copenhagen
TERI Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) India in association with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) organised a High-level Roundtable on Private Sector Solutions for Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific as an Official COP 15 Side Event. The roundtable was chaired by Nitin Desai, Chairman, TERI BCSD India and Former UN Under Secretary General and the invited distinguished panelists included Ajit Gulabchand, Chairman & Managing Director, Hindustan Construction Co Ltd; Meera H. Sanyal, Country Executive, ABN AMRO Bank NV; Leena Srivastava, Executive Director, TERI; Harry Verhaar, Sr. Director, Philips Lighting; Cristina Rumbaitis del Rio, Team Leader, The Rockefeller Foundation; and Philippe Forestier, Executive Vice President, Dassault Systemes. COP15: Strategic Dialogue: Removing Barriers to Private Sector Investment in Climate Change Solutions 7 December 2009, Hotel DGI Byens,Copenhagen, Denmark
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and its Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD) India in association with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) organised a day-long dialogue on the sidelines of COP15 to promote Private Sector Solutions to address climate change in Asia and the Pacific. Themed Strategic Dialogue: Removing Barriers to Private Sector Investment in Climate Change Solutions, the discussions brought together more than 80 senior experts from the private sector and knowledge based international organisations to focus on mobilising support towards private sector investment in deploying more sustainable technology on a large scale; using private sector risk management and insurance schemes to respond to climate risks; identifying innovative public private arrangements to fast track the transition towards low-carbon climate resilient economies; and specially scaling up solar energy development in the Asia and Pacific. >>

Round table Meet on Business response to HIV and AIDS in India 11 September 2009, Magnolia Hall, IHC, New Delhi Private sector is a significant partner in its response to HIV and AIDS, both in their capacity as employers and as leaders in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Over 50 companies along with organizations working in this sector discussed issues related to HIV-AIDS. Training and Capacity Building on Corporate Sustainability - Measuring and Reporting 14-15 July 2009 A consistent, reliable, credible, and transparent reporting mechanism is a critical element in the process of communicating a corporation's efforts to be more sustainable. Organizations are increasingly adopting the concept of corporate sustainability, which is focused on environmental, social, and economic performance, in place of the traditional principle of ‘growth and profit maximization’. Reporting this to the public can happen only through proper measuring and monitoring procedures. Against this backdrop, it is imperative for companies to draw up accurate sustainability reports and learn how it could impact their long-term viability. In India, corporate sustainability reports assume even more significance in the wake of the Satyam fiasco, as stakeholders increasingly demand more transparency and accountability from companies. >>

On this occasion Dr R K Pachauri launched the TERI BCSD India White Paper on Corporate Action Plan on climate change -which illustrates implications and opportunities for businesses arising out of the National Action Plan on Climate Change. In his opening remarks, Dr Pachauri cautioned that the world is moving towards a 'climate vulnerable future' and urged industry and business to ensure a 'low carbon future' without which all stakeholders will be in trouble. >>

TERI BCSD India White Paper on "Corporate Action Plan on Climate Change" Through successive consultations with its member companies and advice provided by the industry associations, TERI-BCSD India developed the White Paper on "Corporate Action Plan on Climate Change". TERI-BCSD India hosted the Global Compact Society Monthly Meeting for the month of December 2008 at TERI premises. The theme for the meeting was ‘Practical Elements of Sustainability Reporting: a sharing of experiences’. The meeting was co-chaired by Ms Annapurna Vancheswaran, Director, SDO, TERI along with Dr Uddesh Kohli, Senior Advisor, UN Global Compact, and member of Global Compact Society, Governing Council.
